Cape Town City’s Route to the Play-Offs
Cape Town City secured their place with a 4-2 win over Leicesterford City at Dobsonville Stadium on the final day of the Motsepe Foundation Championship season.
The match was eventful. Emile Witbooi’s penalty was saved, but Dzenan Zajmovic followed up to give City the lead. Leicesterford City levelled from the spot through Matome Mmolai after Lorenzo Gordinho was penalised. Gabriel Amato then restored the lead with a free-kick.
Fuad Johnson pulled Leicesterford level again with a second penalty early in the second half. From there, Jaedin Rhodes took over he scored once and then completed his brace after combining with Witbooi to seal the win.
Milford FC’s Route to the Play-Offs
Milford FC’s final-day task was simpler. A 0-0 draw against Hungry Lions in Upington was enough to confirm third place and a spot in the play-offs. Hungry Lions finished the season in fifth.
For Milford, this is uncharted territory. The club has never played in the Betway Premiership before, making this play-off series a historic opportunity.
Cape Town City vs Milford FC Head-to-Head This Season
The two sides have already met twice in the Motsepe Foundation Championship this season. Milford FC won 1-0 at home, while the fixture in Cape Town ended 2-2. With Milford FC holding the upper hand from their two meetings this season, Cape Town City will be looking to turn things around when the two sides meet again on May 26 and June 6.
What Is at Stake?
A place in next season’s Betway Premiership is on the line. For Cape Town City, this is about making a swift return to the top flight. For Milford FC, it is the chance to reach the Betway Premiership for the very first time.
